(Conceptual App)

Venmo is a mobile payment service owned by PayPal. Its account holders can transfer funds to others via a mobile phone app. Venmo is a type of payment rail. It handled $12 billion in transactions in the first quarter of 2018. In this conceptual exercise, we were tasked to introduce the ability to locate and donate to organizations through the Venmo application.

User Interview
We interviewed 9 users in different demographics and synthesized the information of those interviews.
Comparative Analysis
I created a comparative analysis amongst the top 8 applications out in the market. I was able to pinpoint the biggest downfalls and success of each application.
Participatory Design
I recruited a non Venmo user to test the new feature. This pointed us to the correct placement of this feature.
Affinity Map
We identified the following:
-I am more likely to donate if I know where the money is going.
-I donate to organizations that I trust.
-I use Venmo for personal payment transactions.

Through research and participatory design, I was able to identify the need for the app to remain simple and easy to use. We also learned where the new feature should go based on first timers usability testing and the intuitiveness and learnability of the application. The user went directly to the "pay/request" icon when instructed to donate to an organization.

Research Outcomes

Paper Prototype
As a team, we ideated different possibilities and arrived on a possible final design so that we could start testing the new feature.
After different usability testings were done and the feedback was reviewed, we made changes to information architecture and user interface.
